Welcome to my sketchbooks gallery page. Sketchbooks are listed here with galleries as my new and archived work is prepared and added.

Sketchbooks seem to be defined as having a weight of anything less than 100 lb. for the paper. Journals, on the other hand, seem to be defined as having a weight of 100 lb. or more for the paper.

There is a separate gallery page for Journals.

Sketchbooks page is in development. Sketchbooks I have in progress, completed, or near completion are listed here with links to any related pages.

I continue to work in the sketchbooks until they are completed and even after that as ideas or inspiration strike for collage, digital or something else.

I’ve included some of the collages and inverse collages that were created from some of the images into the galleries below. Some of the digital creations have also been added.

Thank you for your patience with my process. It is much appreciated.

80 lb. drawing 4 x 6

4×6 drawing 80lb is a sketchbook of my earlier work with life drawing. The images here vary in a mixture of mediums from graphite, pastel, compressed chalk, vine charcoal, and watercolor. This sketchbook has been completed. Work in this sketchbook is open to collage.

Life models found in this sketchbook include the following:
Anonymous Three, Christa, Cynthia, Ginger, Lori S., Jono,
Rob D., Sajda, and Tori.

blue sketchpad 5 x 5

Blue sketch 5 x 5 is another sketchbook for my creative journey into smaller formats. This sketchbook was started in 2014 while I was left to my own devices outside of college courses. Those were done while attending SDAI’s “art gym” at the Museum of the Living Artist in Balboa Park here in San Diego. I continued using this blue sketchbook on occasion in 2015 at “art gym”, at “My Art Shed” in La Jolla, and in my Life Drawing class ARTF210C at San Diego Mesa College.

This 2014 five minute eraser sketch of Rob (shown above) was updated with an addition of acrylic paint via a gel plate in 2023 (shown below). This transitioned into use with a gel plate to apply acrylic paint to paper (paper that generally does not handle the moisture involved with acrylic paint, but works when done just right with a gel plate). From this point in 2023, this became one of my new sketchbooks for my photo reference drawing/painting with Instagram life models and from my model photography archive.

Some of the images in this sketchbook have also had digital versions created such as the following blind contour image of @lifefigure_. I’ve included those digital versions into the gallery as well.

Life models found in this sketchbook include the following:
Anonymous One, Anonymous Three, @artmodelstl, @ayax_moon, @brocktonwarwick, David, Donovan, Earl, @giovanniortiz6151, @gjthefiguremodel, Harry Covair, Joel, Jono, @lifefigure_, @lifemodel.rach, @lorent_live_model, @luniversphotos_de_p, @malemodelmtl, @maxexhibiart, Meghan, @mistry.3y3z, @mrkendonagasaki, Rob D., Sabrina, Scott, @stokesjaronalex, @stuinsd, @vivastra_life_modelling, @vlad.uvarov.cg, Yoni, and Zoe.
